two decades down
i’ve tread on the grain coast
home, school, church, mosque…
just everywhere you can guess

i learned how we were
dug out of slavery,
escape famine and war
and stood as Africa oldest republic

i called also to memory
when we battled injustice
and cried for rights
but birth the most corrupt election

how corruption
sneaked from being a public
enemy to a vampire;
sucks our resources

under the sheets

i am indeed Liberia
my red blood stands for valor
the dark continent is my colour
& i breath purity out of my nostrils
