Today, the 26th day of March 2022, BANSI IV is officially launched with the title DEMIGODS. It is the fourth in the series BOYS ARE NOT STONES anthologies of stories, poems, essays and dramas on the plight of the boy child who are under the weight of societal expectation to be strong. Just strong, never permitted to show weakness. This assumed strength of the boy child and men folk becomes their undoing as the become beasts, scums and flawed gods. If strength has made them so, maybe they should tell the world that they are not stones. That they have been weakened by burdens.

The maiden edition, which was launched in 2018, was greeted with much controversy. Many mocked the initiative, but the organisers of BANSI were not deterred. The initiative is dedicated to lending loud voices to the silent groaning of the boy child.

According to Tukur Loba Ridwan, an award-winning Poet & Author, A Boy’s Tears on Earth’s Tongue & Anatomy of the Sun (w/Jide Badmus): “Few books of poetry awaken our psyche on the struggles of the male folk as functional members of the society, ditto the sense of strength, responsibility and  sacrifice conferred on the boy child as he matures into a man, as a dependable member in the society. Demigods by Boys Are Not Stones Initiative (BANSI) is an anthology that calls our attention to what we already see around us, but hardly tend to give the deserved credence, because we deem it simply normal. Let this anthology reorientate you, and remind you that no one is taken for granted in the society, irrespective of gender.”
