Aside from today
that the sun comes with a frown:
those days we ran in the yard
wiggling our kites like tails
pinching the sky from dawn to dusk.

Those days we were lambs,
when pleasure sat between our limbs;
we rode our cycles
playing in the mud like kittens
while we’re wet by the rain.

Those days we made planes
with papers, and painted
our faces with colors,
we sat by the stream
with our hopes hungry for tomorrow

In those days,
we ate fresh fruits from trees,
licked our fingers –
we gathered at the square
to build castles with clay
and play hide and seek

under the sheets

When the sky covers her blanket,
mother pulls our ears,
and we tiptoe into our huts
with no worries but being happy.
